How to Connect HubSpot to ChatGPT

AdPlug's HubSpot MCP server connects ChatGPT to your HubSpot portals. ChatGPT can search contacts, companies and deals and run HubSpot's reports, and on plans that run write actions it can prepare changes you approve. One app reaches every client portal you connect. This guide covers the install, which ChatGPT plans can do what, everyday use, and how to disconnect or uninstall.

01

What the HubSpot MCP does

AdPlug for HubSpot is an app built for the HubSpot platform. It connects the portals you choose to ChatGPT through one connector, so ChatGPT can:

  • find and read contacts, companies, deals, leads, tickets and activity, in one portal or across all of them
  • run HubSpot's reports: SQL over your CRM data, attribution, campaigns, marketing email, content, AI search (AEO) and buyer intent
  • look up pipelines and stages, properties and their dropdown values, owners and portal settings
  • prepare changes to records, segments, campaigns, marketing emails, properties and pipelines, which run only after you approve them (on ChatGPT plans that run write actions)
  • put spend from Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads or Microsoft Ads next to HubSpot leads, deals and revenue, with AdPlug's ad connectors in the same chat

It suits consultants and agencies who work in several client portals, and anyone who wants their ad spend and their CRM in the same conversation.

02

Install: connect a HubSpot portal to AdPlug

You connect each HubSpot portal to AdPlug once, and most of it happens on HubSpot's own screens. Then you add one app to ChatGPT, and it reaches every portal you connect.

  1. Get an AdPlug account on Pro, Max or Agency

HubSpot is included from AdPlug's Pro plan: 3 portals on Pro, and 10 on Max and Agency. It isn't on the Free plan. New to AdPlug? Sign up at adplug.app/signup with Google or email, follow the short onboarding, then upgrade to Pro from the HubSpot card on the Connections page. You can connect your first portal as soon as the upgrade goes through. The pricing page has the plans side by side.

AdPlug Create your account screen with a Continue with Google button and name, email and password fields.
AdPlug sign-up. One click with Google, or an email and password.
  2. Click Connect HubSpot on the Connections page

In AdPlug, open the Connections page and scroll down to the HubSpot card. Click Connect HubSpot. AdPlug sends you to HubSpot, where you sign in with the HubSpot login you use for the portal ChatGPT should work in.

The HubSpot card on AdPlug's Connections page with no portals yet: the portals allowed on the plan, the Connect HubSpot button, and a note that connecting needs Super Admin or App Marketplace Access in the portal.
The HubSpot card on AdPlug's Connections page, before the first portal. Click Connect HubSpot.

    Who can connect a portal

You need Super Admin or the App Marketplace Access permission in that portal. Without it, HubSpot lets you request access, and a Super Admin approves AdPlug once. After that you connect as normal.

  3. Pick the portal in HubSpot's account picker

HubSpot lists every portal your HubSpot login can open, so if you work in several clients' portals you'll see all of them here. Pick the one to connect and click Choose Account. Each connect adds one portal.

HubSpot's Connecting AdPlug to HubSpot screen with Choose an account: a search box and a list of portals, each with its name, domain and Hub ID, one selected, above the Choose Account button.
HubSpot's account picker lists every portal your login can open. Pick one and click Choose Account.
  4. Review the permissions and click Connect app

HubSpot then lists what AdPlug can access. Four permissions are required: viewing contacts, companies and deals, and the portal's own details, such as its domain and user emails. The other 60 are optional. Most come ticked, and you can untick any of them.

Unticking a permission only switches off what needs it, in that portal. Without the write permissions, for example, ChatGPT can still read contacts, companies and deals but can't change them, and without the SQL permission it can't run SQL reports. Configure below lists which permission each report needs.

A permission with a lock can't be ticked: either the portal's HubSpot plan doesn't include it, or a Super Admin has switched it off for AdPlug. When the list looks right, click Connect app.

HubSpot's permissions screen asking what AdPlug can access: four required permissions to view contacts, companies, deals and the account's details, then 60 optional permissions with ticked boxes and All, View-only and None options, above the Connect app button.
HubSpot's permissions screen for AdPlug: 4 required, 60 optional. Untick any optional ones you don't want to grant.
  5. Back in AdPlug, your portal is listed

HubSpot sends you back to AdPlug's Connections page, with the portal on the HubSpot card: its name, Hub ID and region, the HubSpot login that connected it, and how many of the 64 permissions it granted. If some weren't granted, the row says which features aren't available yet.

Two HubSpot portals connected on AdPlug's Connections page, each with its Hub ID, region, the HubSpot login that connected it, its permissions out of 64, and Rename, Reconnect and Remove buttons. The second portal lists SQL reports and Attribution reports as not available yet.

Under your portals, the card shows the connector to add to ChatGPT, with copy buttons for its name and address.

One connect adds one portal. For the next client, click Add another portal and pick that client's portal in HubSpot's account picker.

03

Configure portals, team access and permissions

Rename a portal

Click Rename on the portal's row and give it the name you use for that client. ChatGPT matches that name as well as HubSpot's own, and the card keeps HubSpot's name next to yours.

Add more portals

Click Add another portal on the HubSpot card for each client. Pro connects 3 portals, and Max and Agency connect 10. When they're all in use, remove one you no longer need, or move from Pro to Max.

Team access

On Max and Agency teams, the team owner can set a teammate to View only for HubSpot on the Team page. ChatGPT can then report and analyse for that teammate, but the change tools are hidden and refused. Each teammate connects the portals they work in with their own HubSpot login.

Permissions and the reports they unlock

Each feature works in a portal once that portal has granted its permission. The HubSpot card keeps track of these five:

  • SQL reports: crm.hubsql.execute
  • Attribution reports: reporting.full.read plus a campaign revenue permission, which needs Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise
  • Changes to contacts, companies and deals: the three write permissions, crm.objects.contacts.write, crm.objects.companies.write and crm.objects.deals.write
  • Campaign reports: marketing.campaigns.read
  • Marketing email reports: marketing.email.read

When a feature is locked, the portal's row on the HubSpot card shows its permissions out of 64 and names what isn't available yet. Click Reconnect on that portal and tick the missing permissions in HubSpot. If they show a lock, ask the portal's Super Admin to allow them for AdPlug first. A portal that approved AdPlug earlier keeps only what it granted then, so permissions AdPlug asks for later arrive locked until a Super Admin allows them.

Use HubSpot in ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds custom MCP servers through Developer mode. OpenAI's Developer mode guide lists it for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts, on the web only, with read and write tools and a confirmation before each write. Its help centre's MCP apps article is more cautious and says write actions are for Business, Enterprise and Edu, so on Plus and Pro expect reporting first and test one small change before you rely on more.

No Developer mode on your plan?

The same AdPlug connection works in Claude, where the Free plan allows one custom connector. The HubSpot to Claude guide covers that setup.

Already use AdPlug for your ads in ChatGPT? Keep that app and create this one next to it. The all-platforms address carries the ad platforms only, so HubSpot always gets its own app.

  1. Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings. Developer mode sits in one of two places, depending on which layout your account has: Apps → Advanced settings (shown below), or Security and login on the newer layout, where Apps has become Plugins. Switch it on. The Elevated risk label belongs to Developer mode itself: it lets you add connectors OpenAI has not verified. The toggle's own note also says Memory is disabled while it is on.

    If your menus look different

OpenAI is moving Apps to Plugins and the labels are changing with it. Its Developer mode guide has the current ones.

  2. Add AdPlug to ChatGPT

Go back to Settings → Apps and click Create app. On the newer layout, open Plugins and use the plus button. Either way, fill in:

    • Name: AdPlug - HubSpot
    • MCP Server URL: the address below
    • Authentication: leave as OAuth
    • Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create

On Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces the form also has a Scan Tools button. Click it, approve the AdPlug sign-in when it opens, and let the scan finish before you click Create.

  3. Ask your first question

Start a new chat, open the + menu in the composer, and select the AdPlug app (on some accounts it sits under Developer mode in that menu). Then ask:

    “List my HubSpot portals.”

ChatGPT calls the hubspot_list_accounts tool and lists every portal you connected, with its Hub ID, region and status. If your portals are there, the connection works end to end.

First prompts to try

Swap [portal] for a portal's name. ChatGPT asks when it needs more, like the period or the pipeline. More copy-paste prompts live in the prompt playbooks.

List your portals

“List my HubSpot portals.”

Paid leads nobody followed up

“Find the leads from paid ads in [portal] that have no owner or no sales activity yet, and show how long each one has been waiting.”

Win rate by source

“Compare win rate, deal size and time to close in [portal] by where the lead came from: paid ads, organic search, referrals and direct.”

Last week, every client

“Summarise last week for every HubSpot portal I've connected: new leads, deals created and pipeline for each client.”

First touch against last touch

“Show how much pipeline each channel gets credit for on first touch and on last touch in [portal], and explain where the two disagree.”

Is HubSpot tracking your ad leads?

“Check whether the contacts in [portal] carry the source, campaign and UTM data needed to attribute them to ads. Tell me what's missing and how to fix it.”

How ChatGPT picks the portal

ChatGPT starts by listing your connected portals, then names the portal in every answer. Say which portal you mean in the prompt, by HubSpot's name or the name you gave it. Ask about all of them at once and it searches every portal, keeping each portal's currency apart. A change always goes to one portal.

Changes are previewed first

Ask for a change and ChatGPT first shows a preview: the portal, each record, its current values and the new ones. Nothing changes in HubSpot until you approve it. HubSpot takes at most 10 records per change, so a bigger job comes back as several previews. Each change that runs counts as one AI edit on your AdPlug plan.

ChatGPT previewing a HubSpot change through AdPlug: the portal's name and Hub ID, the deal, its current stage and the new one, then running the change only after the reply Go ahead.
ChatGPT previews a deal stage change in the portal it names, and runs it only after you say go ahead.

Changes cover contacts, companies, deals, leads, notes, tasks, segments (lists), campaigns, marketing emails including A/B tests, custom properties, pipelines, and AEO prompts and recommendations. Records are never deleted or merged: HubSpot's MCP server has no delete or merge for records. A segment can be deleted, after you approve it like any other change. Forms and form submissions, workflow edits, files and HubSpot Ads data aren't reachable at all.

ChatGPT treats AdPlug's execute tool as a write action and asks you to confirm before it runs. It also has a permission setting for connected apps, with options such as Always ask, Allow read actions and Allow low-risk actions. Keep it on Always ask or Allow read actions, so every change waits for you.

HubSpot and your ads in one chat

The HubSpot connector carries HubSpot only. To put ad spend next to HubSpot leads, deals and revenue, add an AdPlug ad connector next to it in ChatGPT: Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads or Microsoft Ads, or the all-platforms ad address https://api.adplug.app/mcp. Each connector is its own app in ChatGPT, created the same way as this one.

“Compare what I spent on each Google Ads campaign last month with the deals and pipeline those campaigns created in HubSpot, and tell me which ones pay back.”

05

Disconnect a portal

Disconnect one portal at a time, in AdPlug:

  1. Open the Connections page and scroll to the HubSpot card.
  2. Click Remove on the portal's row.
  3. Click Confirm remove.
One connected HubSpot portal on AdPlug's Connections page, with its Hub ID, region and permissions, and the Rename, Reconnect and Remove buttons.
Each portal has its own Remove button. AdPlug asks you to confirm before it removes anything.

AdPlug deletes that portal's stored HubSpot login and asks HubSpot to revoke it, so ChatGPT can't reach the portal any more. Your other portals keep working. Nothing in HubSpot is deleted or changed: the portal's records stay exactly as they are, including any change you approved earlier.

To stop using HubSpot in ChatGPT altogether, remove the AdPlug - HubSpot app there too, in the same settings where you created it.

06

Uninstall AdPlug from a HubSpot portal

You can also remove AdPlug from the HubSpot side, on the portal's Connected Apps page. HubSpot documents it in its guide to uninstalling an app:

  1. In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon in the top navigation bar.
  2. In the left sidebar menu, go to Integrations, then Connected Apps.
  3. Click Actions on AdPlug, then Uninstall.
  4. In the dialog box, type uninstall and click Uninstall.

That ends AdPlug's access to the portal, and ChatGPT can't reach it any more. The next time AdPlug tries, HubSpot refuses and the portal's row on the HubSpot card asks you to reconnect it. Click Remove there to delete the stored login as well. Records in HubSpot stay as they are.

07

What happens to your data

  • Records pass straight through. AdPlug keeps no copy of your CRM records. Records and reports go straight to ChatGPT.
  • What AdPlug stores for each portal. Its Hub ID, its name and the name you gave it, its domain and region, the HubSpot user ID and email that connected it, the permissions granted, and encrypted tokens.
  • Change previews. The change you asked for and, once it runs, HubSpot's answer, kept until the daily clean-up after about a day. The current values a preview shows come straight from HubSpot and aren't stored.
  • Usage log. Each tool's name and the portal's Hub ID, never record data.
  • Disconnecting and uninstalling. Removing a portal deletes its stored login, drops its previews that never ran and asks HubSpot to revoke the login. Deleting your AdPlug account revokes every portal's login and deletes their rows. Neither touches the records in HubSpot.

Troubleshooting

Click any item to expand the answer.

HubSpot says you don't have permission to install the app
Connecting needs Super Admin or the App Marketplace Access permission in that portal. HubSpot lets you request access instead: a Super Admin approves AdPlug once, and then you connect again from the Connections page.
Some reports say a permission is missing
Each portal's row on the HubSpot card shows its permissions out of 64 and names the features that aren't available yet. Click Reconnect on that portal and tick the missing permissions. If they show a lock, the portal's Super Admin has to allow them for AdPlug first, or the portal's HubSpot plan doesn't include them: attribution reports need Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise.
AdPlug says HubSpot connected a different portal
When you reconnect a portal, pick that same portal in HubSpot's account picker. HubSpot lists every portal your login can open, so it's easy to pick the wrong one. AdPlug refuses the swap and nothing changes: reconnect and choose the right portal.
The HubSpot connection took too long
AdPlug gives each connect a time limit, and waiting for a Super Admin to approve AdPlug can run past it. Click Connect HubSpot, or Reconnect on the portal, and go through HubSpot's screens again.
A portal says HubSpot ended AdPlug's access
AdPlug was uninstalled from that portal, or its access was revoked. Click Reconnect and pick the same portal in HubSpot. Your other portals keep working.
AdPlug won't let you add a portal
HubSpot isn't on the Free plan: upgrade to Pro or Max from the HubSpot card on the Connections page. On a paid plan, every portal on it may be in use. Pro connects 3, and Max and Agency 10, so remove one you no longer need or move from Pro to Max.
I can't find Developer mode
It's a web-only setting, under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings (or Settings → Security and login on the newer layout). OpenAI lists it for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. On Business workspaces only admins and owners can switch it on; on Enterprise and Edu an admin grants access first. OpenAI's Developer mode guide has the current list.
ChatGPT doesn't use AdPlug in a chat
Apps are selected per message. Open the + menu in the composer and pick the AdPlug app again, or name it in the prompt: “Use AdPlug to list my HubSpot portals.”
ChatGPT reads HubSpot but won't run a change
OpenAI's help centre says write actions through custom apps are for Business, Enterprise and Edu, so a Plus or Pro account may be limited to reading. On an AdPlug team, also check you aren't set to View only for HubSpot. The same AdPlug account makes changes from Claude.

Questions people ask

Can I connect HubSpot to ChatGPT?
Yes. AdPlug runs a hosted HubSpot MCP server. You connect each HubSpot portal to AdPlug once, add https://api.adplug.app/mcp/hubspot to ChatGPT as an app in Developer mode, and ChatGPT can search your CRM and run HubSpot's reports. On plans that run write actions, it can also prepare changes that run only after you approve them.
Which ChatGPT plans can add a custom MCP app?
OpenAI's developer documentation lists Developer mode for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts, on the web only. On Business workspaces only admins and owners can switch it on, and on Enterprise and Edu an admin grants access first. OpenAI's two pages differ on write tools: the developer guide says Developer mode supports read and write, while the help centre article says write actions are for Business, Enterprise and Edu.
Which AdPlug plans include HubSpot?
HubSpot is included from AdPlug's Pro plan: 3 portals on Pro, and 10 on Max and Agency. It isn't on the Free plan: upgrade from the HubSpot card on the Connections page and you can connect your first portal straight away.
Can one app reach several HubSpot portals?
Yes. Connect each portal in AdPlug once and the same app reaches all of them. ChatGPT names the portal in every answer, can search every portal at once, and sends each change to a single portal.
Does HubSpot have its own app for ChatGPT?
Yes. HubSpot's own connector for ChatGPT connects one HubSpot account at a time, and HubSpot's help centre says to disconnect and reconnect to switch accounts (checked 17 October 2026). AdPlug's app reaches every portal you connect and works next to AdPlug's ad apps in the same chat.
Can ChatGPT delete or merge HubSpot records?
No. Records are never deleted or merged through AdPlug, because HubSpot's MCP server has no delete or merge for records. Where your ChatGPT plan runs write actions, it can create and update records after you approve a preview, at most 10 records per change, which is HubSpot's own limit. A segment can be deleted, but only after you approve that too.
Does AdPlug store my HubSpot data?
AdPlug keeps no copy of your CRM records: records and reports go straight to ChatGPT. It stores each portal's Hub ID, name, domain and region, the HubSpot login that connected it, the permissions granted and encrypted tokens. A change preview keeps the change you asked for and HubSpot's answer until a daily clean-up after about a day.
Does the same connector work in Claude, Cursor or Claude Code?
Yes. https://api.adplug.app/mcp/hubspot is a standard MCP server, so the same connection works in ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients.
